I think fall is the perfect time for carmel apples...last week I learned an amazing trick for making delicious carmel with very little fuss. First, you take the outside wrapper off of a can of sweetened condensed milk. Then put the unopened can in a pot of water and set in on the stove to boil for about 3 hours. You may have to add more water about halfway through the boiling process. Don't worry about the can blowing up...I have boiled several and it is very safe. After 3 hours, remove from heat and let sit overnight. The next day open the can, scoop into a bowl and add 1-2 tsps of vanilla...stir! Waalaa...yummy carmel dip for apples that isn't too sticky!!

This came from my SIL through email. Thanks Valen!!!!

Here is a good fall soup recipe:

Southwest corn chowder

1 package of powdered brocoli&cheddar soup (bear creek is the brand we use

2 small cans of white&yellow corn
1 can of red kidney beans
1 can of black beans
1 package of kilbasa sausage

Prep: pour corn and beans into a strainer and rinse off. Cut sausage into desired sized pieces.

Cook soup following the directions on the package.(it should be a just add water powdered soup) Then add all other ingredients and simmer until sausage is cooked all the way.

I got this recipe while I was in the culinary program and my family really loves it, I hope you guys do too!

Love,
Valen

I thought of another one for you. It's very unhealthy but super easy and VERY yummy! It's my favorite rice ever. My aunt made it all the time when I lived with her and I always called it the "good rice" but it's just a brown rice.

Ingredients:

1 cup of rice (real, not instant)
1 can of campbell's French onion soup
1 can campbell's beef consume
1 stick of butter (no margarine, I use unsalted butter)

Directions:
Pour all ingredients into a baking pan (I use a 13 x 9 cake pan or a glass pan, anything oven safe is fine). Bake at 350 F for one hour.

Also, everyone should visit

for the best homemade oreo recipe ever! They really do taste like ones from the box. We prefer them to the store bought kind.
Love ya!

Oh and one recipe's worth of that rice should feed a family of 5 and have a little for left overs.
